Money Could Have Been Better Spent

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 29th Mar 2006

Local Lib Dem Campaigner, Amy Kitcher, has slammed Merthyr Council's decision to spruce up Caedraw roundabout instead of making vital safety improvements to the roundabout outside Tesco.

The Council are spending £50,000 on the Caedraw roundabout as part of their 'Gateway' project. The changes involve landscaping and moving the Charles Sansbury Sculpture from the college car park to the site.

However, Lib Dem Amy Kitcher thinks that the Council's money could have been better spent.

"It's ridiculous that the Council is spending all this money on sprucing up Caedraw Roundabout when the roundabout outside Tesco needs urgent safety improvements.

"A fraction of the money that the Council is spending would sort out the problems that the roundabout at Tesco causes to pedestrians and drivers.

"This is yet another example of the Council's lack of consideration of the needs and desires of local people."

The Lib Dems have been organising a petition to get the Council to address the problems of traffic congestion at the roundabout outside Tesco and have had a lot of public support. They have collected over 600 signatures and plan to submit the petition to the Council in April.
