Thank you Merthyr Tydfil

The Liberal Democrats made a huge breakthrough in Merthyr Tydfil on Thursday 1st May - electing six Liberal Democrats to the county council.

It is the first time that the Liberal Democrats have ever won seats on the council and shows that support for the party is at an all time high in the area.

The local elections, which were held all across the borough, saw Labour lose nine seats as well as overall control of the council.

Amy Kitcher, who topped the poll in Town ward, said, "People have been telling us that they are fed up of being taken for granted by Labour. Now we have an opportunity to local people that there is a different and better way to do things."

Kevin O'Connor, who gained a seat in Plymouth ward, added, "One party has dominated this area for too long. By voting out the Labour leader and replacing him with a Lib Dem councillor the people have sent a clear message to the Labour party - enough is enough."

The six-strong team of Lib Dems will work hard to put the needs of local people first and has pledged to stay in touch with residents all year round, not just at election time.
